The Chardonnay grape - Champagne Mandois

A Champagne House with a strong winegrowing identity

The Chardonnay grape

The Chardonnay grape gently brings out the character of our fine limestone terroirs and plays an essential role in the harmonious ageing of our champagnes – it is the purest expression of Mandois’ winegrowing identity.

The soul of our vineyards

Chardonnay reigns supreme across our 37 hectares of vineyards. This elegant white grape makes up 70% of our plantings, giving us complete self-sufficiency in its supply. It flourishes under the attentive care of our team, an essential factor in achieving the precision for which our champagnes are known.

Chardonnay leaves an unmistakable imprint on the Mandois vineyards.

Terroirs that reveal its finest expression

Our Chardonnay is planted in the exceptional terroirs of the Côte des Blancs, in villages such as Vertus (Premier Cru) and Chouilly (Grand Cru), to enable it to develop its full potential. This vigorous, early-ripening white grape thrives in these terroirs where the chalk breaks through to the surface and which allow it to unleash the full brilliance of its incomparable freshness.

Our Chardonnay also reveals new facets of its character in other carefully selected locations, such as Pierry in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay and the Coteaux du Sézannais.

Finesse, elegance and freshness. This is the Champagne Mandois style, inspired by the unique personality of the Chardonnay grape.

Signature wines

In the 1950s, our Champagne House introduced a delicate Blanc de Blancs, an ode to the purity of the Chardonnay grape. Today, our Chardonnay identity shines through in two single-varietal vintage wines: the beautifully mineral Blanc de Blancs and Victor Vieilles Vignes (Old Vines) with a soft, velvety complexity.
